Hike Gunung Arong, Mersing, Johor

9 February 2016

Gunung Arong is recently listed as the TOP 10 must hike hill in Peninsular Malaysia on Says.com. As our hobby is hiking, we do a lot of research before we hike. Why do we choose Gunung Arong to hike?

  • Gunung Arong is just 40 minutes away from Mersing town. it is only 1.5 hours to 2 hours from Johor Bahru.
  • On good weather, we can see the beautiful sea view from the mountain view point.
  • The hiking trail is relatively easy to hike
  • It is very windy during our hike.
  • Good seafood meal around Mersing town after the hike (the most important reason)

PS: please remember to get hiking permit. We have been warned by local villagers. T.T

The sea view from the mountain is very beautiful. However, it is too misty on the day we hike.

After driving 1.5hr from Johor Bahru to Tanjung Resang, we still not able to find the village road leading to the Gunung Arong. Around 10:00am, we stopped by Tanjung Resang Resort for the road map.

Road Map to Gunung Arong Base Camp

1) Set Tanjung Resang on WAZE app or Google Map on your smart phone. You will reach to a “t” junction.

2) Turn into this village road when you see this sign board. Until this day, I still don't know the road name. The villagers just said "Jalan itu"
2) Turn into this village road when you see this sign board. Until this day, I still don’t know the road name. May be is Jalan Marris.

3) Drive along the path until you reach a “Y” junction. You will see a little shop house as the image above. Drive on the right road. Follow the red arrow (Drawn by LerLer).
4) You will see oil palm plantation around you as you drive down the road.
4) You will see oil palm plantation around you as you drive down the road. After the oil palm plantation, you will see secondary forest as shown above.
5) You will see the base camp. Park your car near the resting hut.

2) The first 300m of the hiking path is quite steep. Please use the rope along the hiking path

3) There are many big rocks along the hiking trait. Thus, the mountain will be closed during raining season.

4) My hiking speed is realtively slow. I take 45 minutes to reach Gunung Arong view point.

5) We enjoy our tea break at this resting house.

6) Due to the bad weather, we do not hike to Teluk Gorek sea side. We hike back the old path. I just love this big tree structure.

Asean Traveler with Air Asia in Philippines – Part 1

Boracay
Bungee Reverse Jump at Boracay

I was looking at the hamster globe like ball at the stage. I swallowed my saliva strenuously . My heart was beating madly.

ArtChan, you tak takut ke?
I takut. Tetapi ini sekali sahaja dalam hidup. I mesti try lah.

Translation

ArtChan, don’t you feel afraid?
Yes, I am scared. But this is once in a lifetime. I must try it out.

That was ArtChan’s explanation on “Extreme DareDevil”.

When I received the Air Asia News about this award, it was indeed  one of the happiest day in my life. When  AirAsia PR mentioned the word “Extreme DareDevil ” in email, I was thinking.

So I need to try some bizarre foods?

The journey started off from KLIA2. I got to know the other participants. They were ArtChan, Cha, Travis and Helen. We flew to Kalibo airport, Philippines.  During the flight, I got to know ArtChan and his friend more.

Kalibo airport is a small airport. There are 3 immigration counters. When we arrived at the airport, there was a long queue at the counter. We queue up for 30 minutes to get through the immigration counter. Once we stepped out the airport lobby, we were approached by many sale personnel promoting transportation services. We just headed to  the telco counter. We couldn’t live without data plan.

Helen and Travis bought 5 days data plan with international call package from SMART Telco at 400 Peso. While, ArtChan, Cha and I bought 5 days data plan package from Globe at 300 Peso.

Tip: The telco personnel need 15 minutes to set up Globe sim card. If you are in hurry, it is advisable to buy SMART data plan package which  is easier to install.

Next, we squeezed into a Toyota Camry car and headed off to Caticlan jetty. The journey took about 1 hour 30 minutes. Some stretch of the roads were hilly. Some of us felt dizzy.

When we reached the Caticlan jetty, I was surprised with the number of tourists and locals. It was around 7pm. There were still many people around the jetty. I was more surprised with the exorbitant  fees as followed.

  • Environment fee
  • Jetty fee
  • Boat ticket

The boat journey took around 10- 15 minutes to reach Cagban jetty, Boracay. Then, we took jeepney (commonly known as totok car) to the hotel. It was indeed a fabulous and awesome hotel.

Tip: Try to use big note at the telco counter. Then, you can get small notes. It is better to use small note to pay all the unexpected fee.

Deluxe room by Canyon de Boracay. Sponsored by AirAsiaGo.

Canyon de Boracay was voted as the best hotel in 2015  on Trip Advisor. I couldn’t stop taking photos of room as I stepped in.  WhenI showed all these photos to Mr. Ang, he was envious and jealous.

Cafe by the Boracay beach

Boracay’s night life is great. There were many activities on the beach. However, I was extremely exhausted after the long travelling hours since early this morning. After a brief strolling along beach, I dozed off immediately on the bed as I went back to my room.

Kitchen On Budget: 6 Tips From Rakuten Malaysia

Let me share a common conversation at home.

Son: Mum, I am hungry.
Mum: Go and find some biscuit in the kitchen.
Son: Where is the biscuit?
Mum: Open the cupboard on the left. Look at the second column. You should be able to find a tin of biscuit there.
Son: Yup, I found it.

When you are hungry at home, the first place you will visit is Kitchen. You may make a cup of Milo (chocolate drink) or find a few slice of biscuit for a bite. My house always have a container of cut fresh fruits. I will just open the fridge and grab a slice of fruit for a bite. Everyone has their own habit to find food in kitchen. How about you?

According to Feng Shui Beginner, kitchen is considered as the one of the most essential location in a house. Kitchen represent the health. In order to have more income, we need to have the pink of health. Thus, kitchen must be neat and clean at all time.

Here are my kitchen on budget tips.

Multiple adjustable rack can place in almost every corner of the kitchen.  You can place it under the basin and arrange bottles of detergent neatly. I like to keep my kitchen cabinet as neat as possible. I usually placed my herb bottles or sauces bottles neatly on the rack. It will be easier for me to take it out for cooking purpose.

2) 6 in 1 Pop-Up Spice Bottle Jar Container Rack Set

For a common Malaysian family, there will be around 5 spices in the kitchen. The most common spices in the kitchen are star anise, cumin, white peeper, black  pepper, tamarind and cinnamon. Spices need to kept in cool and dry container to preserve its natural fragrant. This tool will be beneficial for homemaker.

I do enjoy a cup of tea after doing house chores. Tea bags can be reused too.

  • A used tea bags can be placed in refrigerator to absorb odors.
  • Cold used tea bags can place on eyes to reduce swollen eyes.
  • Used tea leaves can be used as fertilizer for gardening

As kitchen is  where meal are prepared. Food can affects our health and well-beings. What are your budget tips for clean kitchen? Share with me on the comment below.
