Family’s Omicron Experience

Mr. Ang is entering Singapore soon. Father-in-law suggests having reunion dinner at the nearby restaurant. All family members are having the meal happily

6 Feb 2022 Sunday

I drop off Mr. Ang at customs. Then, I return home to take care of the kids. We did a covid self-test kit as per the school’s request. The result is negative

7 Feb 2022 Monday

Chen is very happy to go back to school. I drop off Yang at my parent’s house. I am having a slight sore throat. I do another round of the covid self-test kit. The result is negative. I left Yang with my parent for a night.

Around 9 pm, Chen’s temperature increased. We gave him some panadol to reduce his body temperature.

My sore throat is getting worse.

8 Feb 2022 Tuesday

At 3 am, Chen is not feeling very well. His body temperature increased to 39 Celcius.

At 4 am, Chen drinks more water.

At 5 am, Chen wakes up and vomits.

At 7 am, my sore throat is getting worse. I lose my voice. Mother-inlaw has a slight sore throat too.

At 7:30 am we informed the school of Chen’s absence.

At 8 am, we visit the clinic for a nasal swab test. Total bill

8:30 am, all results are positive. The doctor advises us to go to Bukit Indah public clinic for a PCR test. I informed the school of our condition.

11:00 am Chen’s classmates are requested to go home.

2 pm we go BP Lab for PCR test

4 pm different medicine and herbal tea are received from relatives and friends. I ordered TCM medicine for Chen. The medicine is RM50. Grab express is RM7.20

5 pm father-in-law return home to quarantine as his result is positive too

9 Feb 2022 Wednesday

PCR result return to be positive too. We just keep resting and keep hydrating. Chen just keep sleeping

10 Feb 2022 Thursday

The same routine of resting. My parent’s results are positive too. I bring Yang home to rest.

11 Feb 2022 Friday

We sanitize the house. Chen’s school conducted the online meeting to inform us of the latest progress and SOP.

I updated my daily health assessment result on the MySejahtera app. KKM still sends SMS and calls to remind me.

17 Feb 2022 Thursday

MySejahtera app is showing low-risk blue color. I brought Chen for a check-up. We have phlegm cough. The doctor prescribed some post-covid treatment medicine.

2 Mar 2022 Wednesday

We went for a second post-covid treatment as the cough was still persistent.

Treatment

Mother in law (60+ years old)

  • 2 doses of Pfizer, 1 Pfizer booster
  • She keep drinking JingSi herbal tea
  • She get well after 3 days of drinking the tea

LerLer Chan (34++ years old)

  • 2 doses of sinovac vaccine and 1 pfizer booster jab
  • I ate lotus medicine for 2 days as per prescribtion
  • I consume Jingsi Herbal tea too

Chen (4 ++ years old )

  • no vaccination
  • We bought medicine from Traditional CHinese Medicine clinic

Getting Birth Cert During MCO

Getting a birth cert during Movement Control Order 2.0 was the worst experience ever. Originally, we made an online appointment on 17 June 2021 for a birth cert. Suddenly, MCO 2.0 was announced. All public services centers were suspended from operating.

There were rumors that if we cant get the birth cert within 2 months, the RM50 penalty will be fined. As a postpartum mother, I felt so stressed. It likes I cant do anything. I can even buy medical insurance for my baby.

Around 15 June 2021, JPN called us for a new appointment date. My husband was outstation. Thus, my dad helped me to apply on our behalf. Here was my dad’s experience on 16 June 2021.

8:00 am dad reach JPN Johor Bahru branch

8:10 am security guard requested my dad to call the office.

8:30 am after don’t know how many rounds of passing the call to n numbers of officers, finally an officer agreed to let my dad in.

8:45 am As my dad is the baby’s grandfather, the officer requested my dad to contact my husband for necessary documents. The officer requested for my husband’s passport stamp page and travel entry letter to be emailed.

9:30 am After the officer received all documents, he proceeded with the birth cert application

10:00 am Finally my dad get his grandson’s birth cert.

Summary

  • Please make an online appointment early with JPN to avoid penalty. Another mother from my confinement center was late 3 months. She was asked to pay RM50 penalty.
  • If the baby’s parent was outstation, get ll the neccessay documents scanned as PDF copy.
  • you may make appointment at https://mytemujanji.jpn.gov.my/mytemujanjipublic/formTJSyarat.php
  • As I gave birth in private hospital and before June 2021, I cant apply birth cert online.

Giving Birth during MCO 2021

Around April 2021, I gave birth to my second son. Now only I have time to write out the experience

5 April 2021, Monday

I experienced contraction around week 35. First thought was “oh no not again”. I gave birth to my first child at week 35. He was so small and tiny that time. This time round, I followed doctor’s advice. I ate caspirin to increase foetus’s weight.

I was rushed to private clinic for consultation. Dr. Goh examined and advised me to take two dose of DEXA. First dose at 9am. Second dose at 9pm. DEXA dose is to let lung mature in short period time in case of premature delivery. Luckily this time, my vagina not yet opened. I can go home and rest. Fortunately, the contraction stopped around noon time.

Second and third week of April

I kept experienced Braxton-Hicks Contraction. I get very confused with the contraction period. I kept my hospital bag ready at all time.

25 April 2021, Sunday

My elder son was kicking and changing his postion whole night in bed. I didnt really rest well. I supposed to go governement clinic for check up. However, i spotted some blood on my undergarment. Bingo! time to go hospital.

8:30am A nurse poked my nose for swab test. After waited for 15 minutes, covid19 result is negative. Only me was allowed to enter hospital compound.

9:30am I wore hospital attire and laid on labour room. Dr. Goh checked my cervix. It has opened 3cm. He poked my water bag. He estimated I will deliver around 2pm or 3pm.

9:40am I was doing meditation to deal with contraction

10:40am my mum visited me in the labour room. I lost my focus. The contraction pain became unbearble to me. I requested for epidural.

11:00am I just felt preassue not pain. Nurse adviced me to sleep. I really felt asleep.

11:30am I felt like pass motion and request to go washroom. The nurse said baby is coming out. Eh! I was sleeping that time. My cervix can open so fast?? Baby was delivered after 4 pushes.

Until today, I still feel strange that I can deliver so fast.

Reflection

  • This time, I delivered my second baby at private clinic. Private clinic services really totally different from public hospital. I can rest well at night. My baby was well fed in baby room
  • The doctor even do a blood test for my baby. We get to know our baby’s blood group.
  • The total cost of natural birth in Dr. Koh and Loh Gynae clinic is RM3180.00.
  • Family members were not allowed to visit. It was truly a lonely experience.
  • A big thank to my mother for delivering my first sumptous meal after delivering.
  • A big thank to my family members for helping me pick up diaper and wet tissue.
  • A big thank to all the healthcare staff in the hospital.
  • Thank you Mr. Ang for spending the large sum for me and baby. He was outstation in China during my pregnancy.

Modified Glucose Tolerance Test (MGTT) in Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak

Modified Glucose Tolerance Test (MGTT) or commonly known as cabaran air gula in Malaysia. During my second pregnancy, the nurse requested me to take MGTT. The reason is all pregnant lady above 25 years old must take the test. My first MGTT is on 11 Nov 2021 (week 15). My second MGTT is on 21 Feb 2021 (week 29).

How MGTT is conducted in Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak?

  1. Nurse will check your permanency week. It is best to conduct it around first trimester and third trimester
  2. A MGTT appointment letter will be issued to pregnant mother
  3. Pregnant mother is required to fast from a day before the test (start from 10pm to next day 8am).
  4. No food is allowed during fasting period
  5. On the appointment date, MGTT mother will be given priority. You should take the glucose test around 8am.
  6. Nurse will take a syringe of blood before asking you to drink a big cup of glucose.
  7. Mother need to drink finish the glucose. If you vomited, you are required to re-drink.
  8. Mother is required to wait for 2 hours before taking the next syringe of blood.
  9. Around 10am, the nurse will take another syringe of blood.
  10. You are allowed to go home.
  11. If no telephone call from the klinik kesihatan by 4pm, you are free from gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
  12. The result slip will be given by the next appointment.

Reflection:

Seriously, I really don’t like the taste of glucose after fasting. It is just too sweet and horrible. My result before MGTT is 4.3. Result after MGTT is 7.7. If more than 7.8, it mean you may have diabetes. Luckily, I am at the borderline. However, I still observe my diet. Less carbohydrate or sweet food in my diet.
