Of late, Theravada Buddhist wedding ceremony has slowly become popular in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. This Theravada Buddhist wedding ceremony is solemnised by Brother Punna Wong of Metta Lodge, Johor Bahru. The details of this ceremony can be referred in his book “Walking in the Buddha’s Footprints: 100 Reflective Essays”, page 205.
Theravada Wedding Ceremony
We are very fortunate to be the one of the couples in Johor Bahru to be solemnised by Brother Punna Wong. Our ceremony took place in Chinese Wedding luncheon restaurant. The whole procession can be viewed from the video clip as followed.
Itinerary of Theravada Buddhist Wedding
- Prepare stage for ceremony (refer to checklist as followed.)
- March in
- Invite bride and bridegroom parents to be seated on stage
- Conduct solemnisation
- Pay respect to Triple Gems
- Commit to Sigalovada Sutta
- Pay respect to parents
- Receive blessing from parents
